Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has officially announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The announcement was made on Monday at the Government House in Gusau by the Deputy Governor, Malam Mani Mummuni, who represented the governor.

Mummuni said the decision followed extensive consultations with key political stakeholders across the state. He explained that the move was endorsed during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Rescue Hall, Government House, Gusau, after a broad engagement initiated by the governor to assess the political situation in the state.

According to him, the defection was driven by the deepening internal crisis within the PDP and the need to build stronger unity to address Zamfara’s security and development challenges.

He added that stakeholders advised the governor to align with the ruling party’s Renewed Hope agenda in the interest of stability, progress, and overall development of the state and the country.

The deputy governor urged supporters and political stakeholders across Zamfara to begin registering with the APC as the party opens its e-registration platform, aimed at strengthening its membership base in the state.

He assured that the decision reflects the governor’s commitment to unity, stability, and accelerated development for the people of Zamfara.

The defection follows weeks of speculation about Lawal’s possible move from the PDP, which intensified after the Court of Appeal judgment on the PDP convention in Oyo State on Monday.
