The Kaduna State chapter of the African Democratic Congress has accused authorities of targeting former governor Nasir El-Rufai and other opposition figures through sustained political pressure.

The allegation was made during a news conference by party chieftain and former Commissioner for Education, Muhammad Sani-Bello, who expressed concern over what the party described as politically motivated actions capable of undermining democratic standards.

According to the ADC, recent developments involving El Rufai are not isolated incidents but part of “a broader strategy to weaken his political influence.”

The party cited several issues, including his omission from a ministerial appointment, ongoing proceedings at the Kaduna State House of Assembly, and the arrest and detention of some of his associates.

Among those mentioned were Bashir Saidu, Ja’afar Ibrahim Sani, Jimi A. Lawal, and Aisha Galadima.

The ADC further alleged that key institutions such as the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, and the Department of State Services are being deployed in a manner that suggests selective enforcement.

According to the party, reports of prolonged detention, alterations to bail conditions, and what it termed legal harassment point to a political agenda rather than legitimate law enforcement activities.
