An aspirant for the Abia North Senatorial seat, Dr. Emeka Kalu, has officially withdrawn from the race, citing the need to preserve party unity and strengthen support for the re-election of Governor Alex Otti.

In a statement addressed to stakeholders of Labour Party , Dr. Kalu said his decision followed deep reflection and careful consideration, stressing that the move was neither out of fear nor weakness, but a deliberate sacrifice in the overall interest of the party.

According to him, leadership requires wisdom, sacrifice, and the ability to place collective interest above personal ambition.

Dr. Kalu warned that proceeding with a fiercely contested primary election could lead to unnecessary spending, internal divisions, and grievances among party faithful, potentially weakening the party ahead of the general elections.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining unity and moving into the elections as a cohesive political family focused on securing victories across all elective positions.

“At this critical time, we must remain focused on moving into the elections rancor-free, united, and stronger as one family,” he stated.

The aspirant noted that his decision was also influenced by the need to support the continued success of Governor Alex Otti’s administration, which he described as hardworking and performing.

He added that he could not continue to pursue personal ambition at the expense of the peace, progress, and stability of the party.

Dr. Kalu expressed gratitude to his supporters, political associates, youths, women, elders, and stakeholders who stood by his aspiration, assuring them that their support and sacrifices would not be forgotten.

He further called on party members to remain united, committed, and focused on the broader objective of party growth and the development of Abia State.
