Senator Adams Oshiomhole has been elected unopposed as the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate for the Edo North senatorial district in the 2027 general elections.

The primary was reportedly uncontested, as he was the only aspirant for the ticket.

Kassim Otono, the Returning Officer for the exercise, confirmed the outcome after collation of results.

Oshiomhole, in his remarks, described the renewal of his mandate as a significant honour, while thanking party members for their support.

He said, “I want to thank all our party members and for whom much is given much is expected, and I promise to do better. As a matter of fact, in this election I am unopposed.

“Am unopposed because the other contestant who filed for nomination wrote that he had withdrawn. And I have a copy of the letter and, I can show you.

“So, actually the correct word is that I am unopposed and that makes it more interesting. Because even the guy who wanted to contest said let Oshiomhole go that is a huge honour.

“Even when you have other people contesting in other parts of the country and having disputes on who to contest.

“And for me to have nobody challenging me in Edo North, for me that is an honour and I can’t thank the people of Edo North.

“But let me make a promise, I will not do one per cent less, and what I ask for is for God to give me more wisdom, favour, connection and influence to be able to bring more things to Afemai land.

“And to be part co-driver that will propel Nigeria to a greater height,” Oshiomhole said.

In a separate development, Senate President Godswill Akpabio has also emerged as the sole candidate of the APC for the Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 elections.

Akpabio, who currently serves as the 15th President of the Nigerian Senate, previously represented the district between 2015 and 2019, lost re election in 2019, and returned to the Senate in 2023.

Meanwhile, in Abia State, the APC senatorial primary for Abia South was won by Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jnr, who secured a decisive victory over his opponents after polling 16,640 votes across the six local government areas in the district.

He defeated Nyerere Anyim, Paul Ikonne, and Blessing Nwagba in the contest, winning all six LGAs including Obingwa, Ugwunagbo, Aba North, Aba South, Ukwa West, and Ukwa East.

With his victory, Erondu Jnr is expected to face Labour Party Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe in the 2027 general election for the Abia South senatorial seat.
