While the Labour Party primaries in Abia State have come and gone, one remarkable story has emerged from the exercise , the story of the Leader of the Bende Legislative Council, Hon. Chinedum Edwin Okorie.

Hon. Okorie, who currently represents Ozuitem Ward in the Bende Legislative Council and serves as the Leader of the Council, has emerged as the Labour Party candidate for Bende South State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections.

His emergence is being celebrated by many party faithful and political observers as a testament to consistency, grassroots engagement, and dedication to the ideals of the Labour Party.

A committed supporter of the Labour Party movement and the 2023 governorship campaign of Governor Dr. Alex Otti, Hon. Okorie played his role within his capacity in mobilizing support for the party during the historic election that ushered in the current administration in Abia State.

From the local government legislative chamber to securing a ticket for the State House of Assembly, his political journey reflects the growing opportunities within the Labour Party for grassroots politicians to advance based on loyalty, service, and commitment.

It will be worthy to note that if elected in the 2027 general election, Hon. Chinedum Edwin Okorie will become one of the few serving councillors in recent political history to successfully transition from a Local Government Legislative Council to the Abia State House of Assembly.

His candidacy is also viewed as a victory for young and emerging leaders who have remained active at the grassroots level, demonstrating that local government politics can serve as a stepping stone to higher legislative responsibilities.

As preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum, supporters believe Hon. Okorie’s experience in local governance, coupled with his understanding of the needs of the people, places him in a strong position to represent Bende South at the state legislature.

For many within Bende South, his story is not just about winning a party ticket; it is a story of political growth, perseverance, and the possibilities that come with grassroots leadership.
