Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal, has resigned his membership of the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
Lawal said his decision was prompted by the emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
He maintained that President Bola Tinubu remains a better leadership option than Atiku.
According to Lawal, the outcome of the ADC presidential primary was predetermined in favour of the former vice president.
The former SGF alleged that the primary process was manipulated and insisted that he would not be part of what he described as Atiku’s political machinery ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Lawal further criticised Atiku’s leadership credentials, accusing him of lacking the competence required to lead the country.
He also described the former vice president as a tribal and religious bigot, arguing that he should not be allowed near the presidency.
Further details are expected.
