Governor Seyi Makinde has declared a curfew across 10 local government areas in Oyo State following growing security concerns linked to the abduction of students and teachers in communities near the Old Oyo National Park.
The affected local government areas are those surrounding the Old Oyo National Park, an area that has become a major security concern for residents due to increasing bandit activities.
Reports indicate that the park is believed to be the location where students and teachers abducted in recent weeks are being held by kidnappers.
A total of 39 students and seven teachers were reportedly kidnapped last month from communities in Oriire Local Government Area.
Governor Makinde announced the curfew on Tuesday through a statement issued by the Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde.
According to the statement, a 16 hour curfew will take effect from Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
The curfew will run from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. and will remain in force for 48 hours in the first instance.
The affected local government areas include Oriire with headquarters in Ikoyi Ile, Orelope with headquarters in Igboho, Irepo with headquarters in Kisi, Saki West with headquarters in Saki, Saki East with headquarters in Ago Amodu, Atisbo with headquarters in Tede and Ago Are, Itesiwaju with headquarters in Otu, Iseyin with headquarters in Iseyin, Olorunsogo with headquarters in Igbeti, and Atiba with headquarters in Offa Meta, Oyo.
The curfew is part of intensified efforts by the state government to curb insecurity and facilitate rescue operations in the affected areas.
