The Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) in Abia State, Hon. Peter Azubuike, has expressed confidence that the party is well-positioned to record a sweeping victory in the 2027 General Elections, declaring that if the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were to conduct elections today, Labour Party candidates would emerge victorious across the state before 2 p.m.

Azubuike made the assertion while addressing journalists at the Labour Party State Secretariat in Umuahia, stating that the party has successfully resolved its internal issues and is fully prepared for the next electoral cycle.

According to him, the Labour Party remains the most grassroots-oriented political party in Abia State, boasting an extensive political structure across the state.

“We are the only political party with a strong grassroots presence. We have 184 councillors, 17 local government chairmen, and 20 members of the Abia State House of Assembly. That is evidence of our widespread acceptance and grassroots support,” he said.

The party chairman explained that the adoption of the direct primary system was aimed at ensuring a transparent, credible, and rancour-free process for selecting candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.

Responding to reports that only one nomination form was sold in some constituencies, Azubuike dismissed the claims as inaccurate.

“It is not true that only one form was sold. In several constituencies, multiple aspirants purchased nomination forms. In fact, not all sitting lawmakers secured the party’s ticket. A good example is the Osisioma/Obingwa/Ugwunagbo Federal Constituency, where the incumbent member did not obtain the return ticket,” he stated.

He added that the Labour Party has invested significantly in strengthening its structures from the ward level through the local government areas to the state level, expressing confidence that the party would secure another overwhelming mandate in 2027.

“We have been able to build strong leadership from the ward level to the local government and state levels, and we are confident that the Labour Party will record a massive victory in the 2027 general elections,” he said.

Azubuike also maintained that the current national leadership of the Labour Party under Senator Nenadi Usman is the duly recognised leadership by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to him, the party has already gained access to the INEC portal for the upload of its candidates, an indication that its leadership has been officially recognised by the electoral body.

The Labour Party chairman reiterated the party’s commitment to internal democracy, grassroots mobilisation, and effective leadership as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
