Airport taxi operators have protested the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, directive requiring all airport cab operators to use 2020 model vehicles and above.
In a viral video circulating on X, the drivers said they could not afford the approved vehicles, which they estimated cost N18 million and above, citing the prevailing economic hardship under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The protesting drivers, who spoke in Yoruba, appealed to Nigerians and President Tinubu to intervene.
“This is what we are facing. Nigerians should help us intervene. They said we should go and buy a vehicle from 2020 or above. Vehicles that cost N18 million and above, with the way Nigeria is now,” one of the drivers said.
The driver also alleged that FAAN was planning to introduce an application for airport taxi operations and appealed to the authorities to bring their concerns to the attention of the President.
“There is no job in the country, with what we are going through… Pity us Nigerians. Let this go viral—Nigerians, pity us, help us. Intervene,” the driver added.
The operators argued that complying with the new vehicle requirement would impose a heavy financial burden on many drivers who are already struggling with the country’s economic challenges.
