The Labour Party’s political momentum in Abia North appears to be gathering significant pace as the party’s Senatorial Candidate for Abia North, Chief Dr. David Ogba Onuoha Bourdex (MFR, OON), received overwhelming support from the people and traditional institution of Nkporo during the final phase of his consultation tour across the three major communities that make up Ohafia Local Government Area.

The historic visit, which brought together the revered Eze Aja of Nkporo, his Council of Chiefs, community leaders, women, youths and party supporters, marked the completion of Bourdex’s first round of consultations with the traditional institutions of Ohafia LGA after earlier engagements with the Enachioken-in-Council of Abiriba and the Udumeze-in-Council of Ohafia.

The visit, according to observers, further strengthens Labour Party’s grassroots engagement strategy ahead of the 2027 General Elections while reinforcing the party’s emphasis on working closely with traditional institutions across Abia North.

In what many described as an uncommon display of solidarity and community unity, activities across parts of Nkporo slowed considerably as residents trooped out in large numbers to welcome the Labour Party delegation.

According to Bourdex, the reception surpassed expectations as men, women and youths came out en masse to identify with the Labour Party family.

He described the warm reception as a demonstration of the people’s confidence in the Labour Party and the developmental direction of Governor Alex Otti’s administration.

“I was deeply humbled by the warmth, love and enthusiasm shown by the good people of Nkporo,” he stated.

One of the highpoints of the visit was the traditional reception conducted by His Royal Majesty, the Eze Aja of Nkporo, who performed customary rites and offered prayers for the Labour Party delegation.

The monarch invoked divine blessings, praying for wisdom, protection, sound health and success for Bourdex and the entire Labour Party leadership as they continue preparations towards the 2027 elections.

According to the senatorial candidate, the royal father further gave a firm assurance of the support of Nkporo for the Labour Party.

The monarch pledged the backing of the community for Governor Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, Bourdex’s senatorial ambition, and all Labour Party candidates contesting for the House of Representatives and the Abia State House of Assembly.

The visit also witnessed enthusiastic participation from young people across Nkporo, who welcomed the Labour Party delegation with songs, chants and displays of solidarity.

Bourdex described the response from the youths as encouraging, noting that their enthusiasm reflected a growing commitment among young people to democratic participation and community development.

According to him, the engagement reaffirmed his belief that the younger generation remains prepared to contribute meaningfully to the future of Abia North.

Addressing the traditional rulers and community leaders, Bourdex expressed appreciation for the honour accorded to him and his team.

He assured the people that the confidence reposed in the Labour Party would be matched with responsible leadership, effective representation and people-oriented legislation.

He maintained that the objective of the Labour Party extends beyond winning elections, stressing that the party seeks to consolidate the developmental strides already being recorded in Abia State under Governor Alex Otti.

“As I have consistently said, this election is not merely about electing individuals; it is about consolidating the remarkable transformation already taking place under the leadership of Governor Alex Chioma Otti and ensuring that Abia North has strong, effective and collaborative representation at the National Assembly,” he said.

Political observers say Bourdex’s consultations with traditional rulers across Abia North reflect the enduring importance of traditional institutions in community leadership and grassroots engagement.

The consultations have seen the Labour Party candidate interface directly with royal fathers and community stakeholders in what party leaders describe as efforts to build stronger relationships ahead of the 2027 polls.

With the successful completion of visits to Abiriba, Ohafia and Nkporo, the Labour Party says it has concluded the first phase of its traditional institutions’ engagement across Ohafia Local Government Area.

Bourdex expressed optimism that the unity demonstrated during the consultations would further strengthen the party’s grassroots support across Abia North.

He prayed for continued peace, unity and development in Nkporo, Ohafia Local Government Area, Abia North and the entire state.
