National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Seriake Dickson, has declared that Nigeria’s democracy must survive despite the political challenges facing the country.
Dickson made the statement in a post shared on his verified X account on Wednesday.
According to the former Bayelsa State governor, the NDC is confronting what he described as legal and contrived shenanigans by anti democratic forces, expressing confidence that the current challenges would eventually pass.
He also said he trusts the judiciary to uphold the law and resist any attempt to use the courts to undermine Nigeria’s democratic process.
Dickson lamented that some individuals he had mentored and supported throughout his political career had turned against him by using the machinery of government to remove people from office, victimise innocent citizens and spread false propaganda.
He also accused them of repaying the support he extended to them, their families and communities with acts of ingratitude and hostility.
“Nigeria’s democracy must survive. Multi party democracy must survive no matter the different odds we may face in the course of returning Nigeria on the right course.
“I have watched with immense pride and satisfaction that, while I laboured here with my colleagues to strengthen and build our party nationally, droves of leaders and citizens, men and women, young and old, have continued to troop out to register, join, and actively participate in the affairs and activities of our party,” he wrote.
