The Social Democratic Party, SDP, will conduct fresh governorship primary elections in Nasarawa and Gombe states ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party announced that the replacement primaries will take place on Saturday, September 5, 2026.
The exercise became necessary following the withdrawal of the governorship candidates previously elected by the party in the two states.
In Nasarawa State, former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, is expected to emerge as the SDP governorship candidate.
In a notice, the party invited the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to monitor the fresh primary elections.
“We wish to notify and invite the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to monitor the primary elections to substitute candidates for the governorship, in view of the elected candidates who have withdrawn from the race,” the party stated.
The SDP said the fresh primary in Gombe State will be held at the party’s State Secretariat in Gombe.
In Nasarawa, the exercise will take place at Ta’al Hotel, Ladia, in the state capital.
The party urged relevant stakeholders, including INEC, to take note of the arrangements as it moves to replace its withdrawn candidates ahead of the 2027 election.
