Minister of Works, David Umahi, has criticised the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over his frequent use of the phrase “go and verify” when discussing his achievements and governance record.
Umahi expressed his displeasure in a video that circulated widely on Wednesday, saying he dislikes hearing the former Anambra State governor repeatedly use the expression.
“I hate hearing this statement he always makes, ‘go and verify,’” Umahi said.
Obi frequently uses the phrase to encourage Nigerians to independently examine his claims about governance, public expenditure, economic policies and his performance while serving as governor of Anambra State.
The former governor has consistently presented the approach as an invitation for public scrutiny, urging citizens to consult available records, official documents and other sources rather than accepting political statements without verification.
Umahi’s remarks add to the ongoing public exchanges surrounding Obi’s political statements and his approach to discussing governance and accountability.
