Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, has hit back at African Democratic Congress presidential running mate Rotimi Amaechi following his criticism of the president’s economic policies and supporters.

Onanuga described Tinubu’s supporters as “MAD” in a post on X while responding to Amaechi’s remarks ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking at a town hall meeting in Benin City, Edo State, Amaechi had said only “mad people” and “thieves” would vote for Tinubu in the next election.

The former Rivers State governor also criticised the president’s economic policies, describing the removal of the fuel subsidy as “reckless”. He further suggested that Edo residents who voted for Tinubu would be “mad”.

Responding to the comments, Onanuga embraced Amaechi’s use of the word, explaining it as an expression of the commitment and determination of Tinubu’s supporters.

“Rotimi Amaechi: Yes, we, the followers and supporters of President Tinubu, are truly MAD. Read why we are.

“Motivated, driven by purpose and passion. Assured, confident in our vision and victory.

“Determined, focused, resolute, and unstoppable for President Tinubu’s re-election.”
