The Northern Governor’s Forum (NGF) has said it will work with relevant stakeholders to secure Nigeria’s borders and register Fulani immigrants entering into the country to rear cattle.
Alhaji Kashim Shettima governor of Borno state who also serves as the Chairman of the forum, speaking to newsmen at the end of the forum’s meeting in Kaduna, on Tuesday, January 24, said the governors observed that most of the herdsmen involved in issues of insecurity are immigrants from Senegal and Mali.
According to him, the need for every Nigerian to see security as his or her business, pointing out that the nation would remain backward if there was no peace.
He acknowledged that the country was experiencing lots of challenges, particularly in the northern region, but expressed optimism that things would get better.
All governors of the 19 northern states under the umbrella of the Northern Governors Forum on January 23, met with emirs, chiefs and other political leaders over the continuous violence of Fulani herdsmen and religious crises in the region.
Issues of insecurity, the management of common assets and measures to move the region to greater heights were among issues discussed in the meeting.
