It is no longer news in Rivers state as Local Government Legislatures cry for help as most of them don’t even know their stipulated constitutional monthly Salaries and seating allowances.
Several local government legislatures has resulted to seeking help from media influencers to help curb the sufferings and humiliations they are presently into.
A legislature (councillor) who seek for anonymity explained his ordeal.
“My brother, pls my brother, use your media prowess to help us the councillors in ETCHE we are going through hell, you can’t believe we don’t have fixed salary, we are paid after staff of the council has been paid and godfathers take their own cut then whatever remains they share to us as our salaries, you can’t believe some months we go home with #200,000, there was this month we were paid 120,000 only, some of us can’t even take care of our homes while this godfathers goes home every month with reasonable amount, the last time one of us tried to protest, he was denied salary for that month before he has to go and beg.
“People are meeting us everyday for one problem or the other meanwhile our salaries are not even enough to take care of our immediate family bills, no sitting allowance, no allowance of any kind, my brother this is slavery, the worst is that this stakeholders are collecting huge amounts from state government yet cannot allow us go home with our complete salaries, I never bargained for this I must tell you the truth.
“Atimes we can’t even pay our aids, sometimes we end up paying them 10-15 thousand naira, these are family people with wives and children.”
Similar or worst thing happening in Omuma LGA, just two weeks ago, someone (Ajoku Ndubuisi) alleged on social media that a local government legislature from his Obio akpor local government area of Rivers State is soliciting to him for a token of a thousand naira for him to subscribe his data in other to keep him on to share party news to his followers.
