Imo State Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, has announced the appointment of a career civil servant, Mr. George Eche, as the new Secretary to the State Government of Imo State, SGI.
Gov Rochas Okorocha Mr. Eche’s appointment came barely four days after the Governor relieved the immediate past occupant of the office, Sir Jude Ejiogu, of his duties. The new SGI, who is a native of Obiangwu, Ngor Okpala local council area of the state, was first appointed a Permanent Secretary by Chef Ikedi Ohakim and posted to the Ministry of Finance. However, when Okorocha came on board as Governor in 2011, Eche was appointed the Accountant General of the state but was later backloaded to the Ministry of Finance. Vanguard recalls that while superintending over the Accountant General’s Office, Eche was not only a regular visitor to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, but also carried his cross without necessarily implicating any other government functionary. A Government House staff, who spoke on strict grounds of anonymity, told Vanguard yesterday that “Mr. Eche has joined the likes of Professor Enoch Anynwu, Chief Innocent Diala Nwoga, Eze Kele Okereke, Nze Ignatius Umunna, Chief Chris Okewulonu, Chief Cosmas Iwu, Eze Victor Ibenye-Ugbala, Professor Anthony Anwuka and Sir Jude Ejiogu.
