Abia State Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Solomon Ogunji has charged traders not to sale goods to any customer who fails to wash his hands at market centres
The Commissioner gave the charge today while monitoring the monthly clean up excercise in Aba, the SME capital of Nigeria. He described proper hand-washing, application of hand sanitizers and social distancing as key to preventing the outbreak of Corona virus.
Dr. Ogunji, who dedicated the monitoring of the monthly sanitation excercise to carrying out sensitization of traders against the dreaded Corona virus instructed them to ensure they put in place, buckets with running water as well as get sanitizers and ensure they sanitize their hands at least on hourly bases.
The Commissioner, who doubles as the sub Committee Chairman on the enforcement of various Coronavirus preventive measures in Abia State, visited Ehere market, Ahia Nkwo market, Umungasi market, abatoir at Waterside, Ahia Umunwaeke at Seven up road among others places harped on the need for maintaining high standard of hygiene and sanitation to prevent a possible outbreak of Coronavirus in Abia State.
The Commissioner warned operators of commercial vehicles and tricycles to adhere to goverment directives and disclosed that mobile courts would be used to ensure full implementation of the directives.
He said the State goverment may decide to lockdown on markets if people do not adhere to the preventive measures already marshalled out for them.
He said that Abia has not recorded any case and enjoined all to make all efforts to prevent the virus from entering into the State, adding that Coronavirus has no cure but can only be managed.
