The factional governorship candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance in Abia State, Chief Reagan Ufomba, has dismissed speculations that he had finally stepped down for Dr. Alex Otti, who is the candidate recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Ufomba, who made the clarification on Saturday during a political rally at Uturu, said he was the authentic candidate of the party in Abia State, and could not have given up his ambition for any person or reason.
He enjoined his supporters to disregard the rumour and go ahead and vote for APGA at the governorship polls, expressing the confidence that he will eventually be sworn in if the party is voted into powwer.
He alleged that Otti had not resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party from where he defected to APGA, and could not legally claim to belong to the party.
During the rally, he received some members of the party who said they were defecting from Otti’s camp.
Spokespersons of the group numbering about 50 , Chief Reuben Ezeji, and Mrs. Peace Amanze, said they were “wondering in the wilderness before but have now found the way.”
They pledged support for Ufomba whom they said had a workable programme to fix the state.
Ufomba had, during a courtesy call on the paramount traditional ruler of Isuikwuato, Eze Ezo Ukandu, said he would assign prominent role to traditional rulers if voted into power.
