Former governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has congratulated the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, for emerging as Nigeria’s next president.
In a congratulatory message last night, Kalu stated that Buhari must have learnt from the experiences of Abraham Lincoln and Wilson Churchill, who contested for the United States presidency many times before occupying the office.
He said: “You clearly learned from the noble history first set by Abraham Lincoln and then by Winston Churchill – great democrats, who patiently and protractedly craved the will of their people to donate to them the democratic mandate to lead them. “In the end, they got it. And at last, they found a place, through the people’s free franchise, to stand and change their respective nations and in the process, they changed the world in many profound ways.”
What Nigerians expect from the President-Elect, Kalu told Buhari: “Nigerians have given you a democratic platform to stand and change our miserable place in the world. We hope that you will lead us into a better place and carve your name in the golden marble of history, as did the men I just mentioned.”
Kalu stated that Nigerians had placed a great burden on Buhari as, “they have taken a decision that they have never taken in their history – to eject an incumbent president and repose their hopes, aspirations and confidence in another.”
Commending the President-elect, he said: “You have run a good race but your journey has only just started. But, I have every confidence that the discipline of your personal character and the ascetics of your lifestyle will stand you in good stead as you commence the onerous task of reconstructing a society and fathering a nation.”
