The
Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja
few minutes ago struck out the motion moved by Emmanuel Ukala, Counsel
to the Governor of Rivers State Barr.Nyesom Wike challenging the
jurisdiction of the Tribunal to hear the matter in Abuja instead of
Portharcourt.
The Presiding Judge of the Tribunal,Justice Abdukadir Pindiga after hearing the argument of the Counsel to Wike,who was questioning the jurisdiction of the Tribunal to entertain the petition brought by Dakuku Peterside challenging the electoral victory of Barr.Wike as the Governor Of Rivers State,maintained that his Panel has the jurisdiction because the powers of the Tribunal scattered round the 36states of the Federal Republic Of Nigeria.
The Tribunal had fixed today to decide whether it has jurisdiction to hear and determine petitions challenging Governor Wike’s election,outside Rivers State,after listening to the preliminary objection that the Counsel to Nyesom Wike moved.
The Tribunal is expected To Rule on wether Dakuku Peterside was actually qualified as a candidate for an election on Wednesday July 29th 2015
