Former president of the Senate, Senator David Mark has called on President Mohammodu Buhari to as a matter of urgency mobilize all the security apparatus in Nigeria with a view to putting a stop to the senseless carnage currently ravaging Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.
Senator Mark who made this call in a press release signed by his Special Assistant, Benue Liaison, Dr Adakole Elijah, lamented the incessant attack on Agatu people by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
According to the Senator, President Buhari as the Commander In Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria ‘ owe us a duty to protect us. It is the responsibility of government to protect lives and property. The government should ensure that this carnage is brought to an early end to let my people have their rest ’.
He decried the constancy with which Agatu people were being murdered by the suspected Fulani herdsmen urging all well meaning Nigerians to stand up in defence of the Agatu people by condemning the carnage in strong terms.
The Senator who urged the federal government to beef up security in Agatu by stationing a detachment of armed soldiers in the area in order to halt the incessant attacks also called on the governments of Benue and Nasarawa states to ensure adequate security in the locality.
It would be recalled that shortly after the senatorial re-run in which the All Progressive Congress (APC) lost to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Agatu has been subjected to heavy bombardment by persons suspected to be Fulani Militia
