The Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, at the weekend promised federal government’s assistance to the private sector investors through the removal of bottlenecks for rapid development of dry ports in the country.

He made the disclosure in his office in Abuja, during a meeting with the concessionaires of the dry ports in the six geopolitical zones who came to solicit government’s support for the removal of the bottlenecks in the sector.

The six container inland depots are located in Kano, Kaduna, Funtua in Katsina state, Isiala Ngwa in Abia State, Jos in Plateau State and Ibadan in Oyo state.

In order to fast-track the ease of business in the sector, Amaechi said railway lines have been developed to be linked to the ICDs, adding that imported goods can get to Nigerians quickly without the stress of having to truck them all the way from Lagos, Port Harcourt or Warri.

He said: “We have assured the concessionaires that whatever it takes to assist them to conclude their investments, the federal government will do that.

“They have had some challenges, those ones that pertain to the state government, we will be glad to meet with the state government so that they can render their own support.”
