An aggrieved governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State, Olusola Oke, has defected to Alliance for Democracy.

Oke, who joined the APC from the Peoples Democratic Party after the 2015 presidential election, defected to the AD on Saturday.

He had, along with Ajayi Boroffice and Segun Abraham, petitioned the Electoral Appeal Committee of the APC to challenge the September 3 primary of the party won by Rotimi Akeredolu.

But the National Working Committee of the party, led by the APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun overruled the recommendation of the appeal committee and upheld results of the primary.

Oke, speaking to his supporters from the state’s 18 local government areas at his residence in Akure, stated that his defection was necessitated by an alleged injustice perpetrated by some leaders of the APC during the primary.

He explained that he waited in vain for the party’s leaders to correct the injustice.

The former APC chieftain said, “I was the first person to raise the alarm concerning the fraud in that primary. I was later vindicated by the appeal committee which recommended that the results of the primary should be cancelled. And that a new primary should be conducted. But Oyegun and his cabal proceeded to submit Akeredolu’s name to the Independent National Electoral Commission, thereby killing the dream and the vision of Ondo State people in APC to have a true change they yearn for.

“We can no longer tolerate a situation whereby a government has no dream, no direction, and people are made to wallow in abject poverty. It is based on our desire to reverse this situation that we handed everything to APC, to have a platform where truth will prevail. Unfortunately, the national chairman, Oyegun, killed the dream.”

Oke, however, promised to continue to relate with some leaders of the APC, whom he noted wanted justice to be done concerning the crisis.
