Senator representing Rivers South-East Senatorial district, Senator Magnus Abe has played-down rumours that he plans to dump the All Progressives Congress.
Senator Abe, who was reacting to the controversial Ward and Local government congress of the APC in Rivers State, gave the clarification while briefing newsmen in Port Harcourt.
He said he had no plan to defect from the APC to the Peoples Democratic Party.
Abe also said he had accepted the outcome of yesterday’s non elective Local Government delegates’ congress held across Rivers State.
Senator Abe said himself and his supporters decided to accept the commitment made by the party for the interest of the APC.
He said, “No amount of mago-mago can make me abandon a party I helped to build.
“We have sacrificed so much for this party and we are not just going to jump ship.
“Which party will I defect to? Is it the PDP that when something wrong happens and you shout and shout nobody will answer you?
“I believe in the APC and because of the way the party has been structured, the party will not allow impunity.
“We have decided to accept the outcome of the congress because of the commitment we reached with the party leadership and the Commissioner of Police in Rivers state.
“You will agree with me that for the past couple of years Rivers state has been popular for being a theatre of political crisis. We thought about the negative impact of this image on the state and we decided to let go.
“We also believe that the party will address some of the issues we have raised. We are patriots and we can only exhibit that by allowing peace to reign.”
