SARS Operatives Kill Suspected Cultist In Rivers

Operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad on Monday gunned down a suspected cultist in Rumuakwunde, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The operatives were said to have stormed the community for an undisclosed reason killing the suspect who is from the western part of the country.

Indigenes of the community, who were agitated by the action of the operatives took the remains of the victim and embarked on a protest.

The Prince of Emohua Kingdom, Chigozie Okor, who confirmed the development, noted that the incident had caused anxiety.

He said Yoruba youths living in the community and the indigenes took the remains of the victim to the office of the SARS at Ogbakiri Junction along East-West road in protest, adding that the repeated shooting had caused a lock-down on the busy East-West road.

However, he begged the youths not to take the laws into their hands and added that the King of Emohua, His Royal Majesty, Eze Vincent Okor, had already convened an emergency meeting of the chiefs, elders and traditional rulers on the development.

The Rivers State Police Command had yet to respond to the development as of the time of this report.

However, a senior personnel of SARS stated that the operatives had visited the area for and operation and were attacked by some cultists.

He said a gang of cultists had opened fire on a patrol van belonging to SARS in the area, adding that the suspect was hit when the police returned fire.
