The ongoing clash between youths of Okepopo and Onola in Lagos Island continued on Tuesday night, when a youth identified as Ike was allegedly killed by youths from Onola. It was gathered that despite the presence of Special Anti-Robbery Squad and Lagos State Special Task Force on special offences in Lagos Island, the youth struck, leaving residents to scamper for safety. Residents disclosed that Ike was shot on the head by a five-man gang at about 8.11p.m. on Tuesday at Thomas Street, Lagos Island, by the gunmen. It was gathered that the deceased, an artisan, was a member of the Okepopo Boys that had been fighting with Onola Boys, their rival group. A resident (names withheld), noted that the gang, who came in a hired Keke-Marwa through Adeniji-Adele Road, spotted the deceased among scores of youths and shot him. It was gathered that of the five-gang members, two were identified, while others were suspected members of a cult group. A resident, Oladele, disclosed that the corpse was later removed, yesterday, at about 7a.m. by members of the deceased’s group, who were armed with guns, chased away the four policemen assigned to guard the remains of the dead youth. Another resident disclosed that the body was buried at Okesuna Burial Ground, Lagos Island. Though the presence of policemen doused the tension by preventing Okepopo group from launching a reprisal attack in the community. There was another commotion within the community when the policemen arrested some residents. Efforts to reach the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Olarinde Famous-Cole, for comment proved abortive.
