The former governorship candidate of Progressive Peoples Alliance(PPA) in 2015 election in Abia state and now a chieftain of All Progressive Grand Alliance, Chikwe Udensi on Saturday evening in Umuahia, disclosed that he will contest the governorship seat of Abia state come 2019 election.
This was even as he assured Abians of good leadership if elected as governor in 2019 poll.
Udensi who disclosed this in an interview with selected journalists in Umuahia, said the present government in the state has failed to live up to the exceptations of Abians.
He said,”I’m going to contest as governor of Abia state. There must be a functional system in Abia. The government is not functioning. When the malfunctionality has affected the growth of the state, that’s where I want to start from. There is no functionality in Education system. The healthcare is grounded. There are infrastructure decays everywhere in Abia. Workers are not paid salaries. So if am governor, all systems will function”.
Asked if he was brought back to the party to scuttle the 2019 governorship ambition of Dr. Alex Otti, the Arochukwu-born politician dismissed the notion, saying he was a governorship candidate of APGA before Otti came in.
His words:”If Otti want to contest there will be a playing ground for everybody. If he(Otti) has any capacity to run, he should contest. You are not running by stopping others to join the party or ask those who were there before you to leave. You don’t do that. I have come in. And am not asking people who were already there to leave the party. A party is a mass movement. Is not a company where you ask people to go”.
On the alleged meeting convened by Mr. Austin Ehiemere, Factional chairman of APGA in Abia state, Udensi said:”Actually, I was meant to understand there was meeting that was called Mr. Austin Ehiemere, suspended chairman of the party in the state”.
“He had a meeting of Abia first not APGA the only authentic meeting of APGA can only be called by Chairman which Ehiemere is not”.
“Whatever they decide about my return is up to them, am back to the party. I have been handed over the membership card by the party. I left the party not too long ago because I could not continue with the problems that were in the party. Now am back. Because my child which i helped to build up is starved of funding, is starved of care”.
” Is Abia first they are looking after. Abia first is not APGA. Is somebody’s NGO. People are entitled to their structures. But party is party. Party is supreme. The party ask me to come back, now am back. I have been accepted and handed over card by my chairman in my ward in the presence of all ward chairmen from my local government area”.
