Several vehicles were reportedly burnt on Wednesday afternoon after a tanker exploded in the Festac axis of Lagos state.

According to eyewitnesses, the vehicles gutted fire as the tanker, said to be laden with petrol, backtracked and fell after it attempted to climb the Festac Link Bridge in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of the state.

Officials of the Lagos State Fire Service were said to have arrived at the scene on time but could not quench the inferno completely after their arrival.

While some of the victims narrated how they narrowly escaped death, the incident resulted in a gridlock on the bridge and in the adjoining roads.

Some residents in the area have also taken to Twitter to give an account of the incident.
