Benue State government has declared three days of mourning for those killed in recent attacks on communities in Logo and Guma local government areas of the state.

The government also announced that those who were killed during the attacks would be buried on Thursday, January 11.

Chief Press Secretary to Governor Samuel Ortom, Mr Terver Akase, made the announcement in a statement signed by him on Monday.

“The mourning period will be from Tuesday to Thursday this week and end with a church service for the victims at the IBB square in Makurdi, followed by mass burial,” the governor’s aide said.

During the mourning period, the state government ordered that flags be flown at half-mast while work would close at 1:00 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Thursday, which is the day for the church service and burial of the victims, has also been declared as a work-free day in the state.
