Abia will Contine to Support the Armed Forces- Ikpeazu

Governor of Abia State Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has said that the Nigerian Nation will continue to appreciate and celebrate the patriotic contributions and sacrifices of the members of the Nigerian Armed forces in the fight to surmount current insurgency and maintenance of National, regional and stable peace and security in the past.

Dr. Ikpeazu who spoke at the closing ceremony and laying of wreaths at the tomb of the unknown soldier as part of activities to mark the 2018 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration held at the Aguiyi-Ironsi Cenotaph Ogurube Layout ,Umuahia , said that the gallantry efforts and bravado of the Nigerian Soldiers both in the past and present times cannot be easily erased from our sub conscious mind.

Represented by his Deputy, Sir Ude Oko-Chukwu, he assured that as a responsible and responsive government , his administration would not relent in encouraging and supporting the Nigerian Legion, Abia State Council and other security agencies in all areas within the limits of available resources in sustenance of the prevailing peace and security in the state.

The governor said that the efforts of the Nigerian Legion, Abia state in the training of security personnel for churches. Schools, banks, ministries and homes are commendable and that his administration would continue to partner with them to sustain peace and security in the state and announced the approval of the allocation of land at Ubani ibeku for the legion’s permanent secretariat and other needs.

Dr Ikpeazu described the events as a solemn ceremony to remember the services of love for our Nation as sacrificially rendered by the Nigerian Armed forces and the peace we are enjoying today, challenged all to collectively and individually resolve to live in peace and harmony with one another and contribute to National and global environments where wars and conflicts are reduced to barest minimum if not possibly eliminated.

The highlight of the event include a minute silence in honour of the departed soldiers in operations, laying of wreaths by the governor representative, security chiefs, Chief Mrs Aguiyi-Ironsi and State Chairman of the Nigerian Legion and released of pigeons as a mark of peace.
