Bill To Establish Federal Polytechnic Item Passes 1st Reading in the Senate

The Nigerian Senate Yesterday Tuesday January 30th 2018 passed to First Reading a Bill to Establish a Federal Polytechnic in Item Bende Local Government Area of Abia State.

The bill titled “A bill for an act to establish federal university, Item, Abia State with focused facilities to ensure equity and access to tertiary education in the country; and for other Related Matters 2018”(SB 607) is being sponsored by the Senator Representing Abia North in the Senate Senator Mao Ohuabunwa.

While leading the debate on the general principle of the bill, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa maintained that Abia State lacked viable federal government presence and that the State has no Federal Polytechnic.

He Urged the Senator to consider and support the bill which will give the people of Abia access to Tertiary Education and enhance Education in Nigeria.

The Senate President Senator Bukola Saraki announced the passage of the Bill To First Reading.
