As Abia APC crises Deepens
Abia APC chieftain and former governor of Abia State, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, was today fingered in an attack by thugs loyal to him and his factional leaders of APC against party faithfuls loyal to Chief Ikechi Emenike in Umuahia.
The attack, which led to at least two persons being seriously injured and currently fighting for their lives at a medical facility in Umuahia, occurred around mid day along the ever busy Azikiwe road Umuahia where the state headquarters of APC is located.
Eye witnesses confirmed that the attackers who came in buses and armed with dangerous weapons were led by former Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Barr Martins Azubuike, defeated 2015 APC guber candidate, Chief Anyim Nyerere, Chief Acho Obioma popularly called Chomen, retired Deputy Inspector General of Police Udah, factional Women Leader Sally William and the factional Chairman of the group, Mr Donatus Nwankpa.
According to our sources, the group led by Kalu were holding their meeting at an event center in Isi Court Umuahia when they received reports that the Emenike led faction have broken into the party’s secretariat to hold their own meeting.
On receiving the information, the former Governor immediately mobilized thugs and cultists led by one “Honorable Nwagwu” to move to the secretariat and attack Emenike’s group with the intention of forcibly taking over the party’s secretariat.
On arrival at the secretariat, they met stiff resistance from the Emenike group who fought back and the factional Chairman, Mr Nwankpa was seen by newsmen removing his belt which he used as weapon against the leader of the other group meeting at the secretariat, Mr Emmanuel Ndukwe and wounded him across the face.
Pandemonium ensued as resident and passers by fled for their lives with two persons confirmed to have been seriously injured.
When contacted by newsmen, the former Governor who remained at the event center to monitor the fracas described the violence as shameful and a disgrace to the party but maintained that the internal squabbles would be sorted out.
