There was outrage in Bayelsa State on Friday following the killing of a mother and her six-month-old baby by troops of Joint Task Force, Operation Delta Safe (ODS), during a military operation in Oluasiri, Nembe.
The victims were reportedly hit by stray bullets when the troops shot at suspected militants who fled to the community in the early hours of Thursday.
The victims were – Mr. Wilson Patason, Madam Beauty Christian Gamage and her six- month -old baby.
Several other persons were said to be in critical conditions after sustaining bullet wounds during the operation.
Security sources said trouble started when the suspected militants engaged the troops in a gun duel at the creeks.
