Abia Records Massive Participation in Monthly Sanitation for June

This month statewide environmental sanitation exercise recorded an impressive turnout with Abians seen scooping dirties inside gutters and blocked drainage system.

Monitoring the exercise, the Commissioner, Ministry of Environment,Dr. Aham Uko represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Henry Nwachukwu said that he was satisfied with the rate of active participation of the people for the exercise.

Dr. Uko said that the Ministry mobilized the citizenry adequately to participate in the cleaning up exercise and they concentrated on the flash points.

Dr. Uko therefore commended the effort of Abians for their participation in making the exercise a success.

He observed that most of the rubbish scopped out are drop close and goes back to the dranige and promised to desilt the blocks drainage system for easy flow of waters.

The commissioner recommended the sorting of waste at homes before disposal to encourage scavagers and that the sorting will encourage sorting of waste that could be used for alternative energy generation .

Also speaking, the Chief of Staff to the Umuahia North local government Chairman, Hon Okezie Obasi who represented the umuahia North Boss, Hon Chidiebere Nwachukwu expressed delight on the turn out and tasked the Ministry to sustain the level of mobilisation to ensure that the exercise continue to record good success.
