President Muhammadu Buhari met with the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, Tuesday afternoon at the Presidential Villa behind closed-doors.

Although the purpose of the meeting was not known, it is believed that it might not be unconnected with the development earlier in the day in which police officers laid siege to the houses of Senate President Bukola Saraki and his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu.

It is also suspected that the meeting might be in connection with the fresh invitation of Saraki for interrogation by the police.

Before the take-off of the day’s plenary, police had laid siege to the houses of the two presiding officers allegedly to stop them from getting to the parliament and consequently stall moves by All Progressives Congress (APC) senators from defecting to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Saraki however came to the Senate chamber and presided over the day’s plenary. Fourteen APC senators eventually dumped APC during the plenary session.

It was also alleged that the deployment of police to the houses of Saraki and Ekweremadu was a ploy to stop them from attending the day’s plenary and hence, pave the way for their impeachment and the eventual replacement of Saraki with the Senate Leader, Ahmad Lawan.
