National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, believes the issue of juicy appointments is one of the major factors that brought Nigeria to where it is presently.

He said this on Friday while reacting to the mass defection of some leaders of the ruling party, including the Senate President and three state governors, to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“It is interesting when you read between the lines why people are leaving,” Oshiomhole noted while addressing reporters at the airport in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

“Some people say juicy appointments were not shared to them; how can an appointment be juicy if it is about the people? This concept of juicy appointments is what has brought Nigeria to where we are,” he added.

The APC national chairman, however, described the defection of the party leaders as a manifestation of the anti-corruption campaign of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

He claimed that those leaving the APC never had the progress of Nigeria in mind and wondered why it was when they left the party that they realised that the government was not doing enough.

Oshiomhole defended his tough stance since he assumed the leadership of the APC, stressing that the party would not be run the way it was administered previously.

He said, “If you have a system where even those who lead the government – a section – opportunistically turn around and begin to blame certain aspect of the government, then you will wonder what you the ordinary citizen should do.

“I am very satisfied that we have had to filter out some people and reaffirm that the party cannot be run at the mercy of any individual.”

“If this is what Nigerians have been used to, I didn’t promise to continue more of the same,” the APC chairman added. “I promised to be different and work consciously to recruit allies who believe in the progressive politics and I believe that we are doing well.”
