Henrikh Mkhitaryan has thrown his support behind new manager Unai Emery
Henrikh Mkhitaryan has hit out at the ‘stupid’ criticism Unai Emery has faced following Arsenal’s disappointing start to the new season.
Arsenal, for the first time since 1992, have lost their first two matches of the campaign with Manchester City and Chelsea providing a baptism of fire for Arsene Wenger’s successor.
After bringing in five new players during the summer, however, and attempting to implement a new style of football, Mkhitaryan, who scored and assisted during the 3-2 reverse at Stamford Bridge last weekend, feels it is far too early to judge the Spaniard and his methods.
‘Always, stupid people can say or criticise a team that has played one game in the league,’ he told beIN Sports.
‘You can criticise after one year, at the end of the season when we are going to see what we achieve. But you cannot criticise a team or players after one game, because that is not the main thing.
‘You have to give time to the manager because he is new and has a new philosophy. Even the Roman Empire was not built in one year or in one month.
‘We need time and we are pretty sure we are going to move forward and have a good result.
‘Everyone is positive and looking forward and we are hungry to win games.’
