Rt. Hon Barry Barinada Mpigi wins the Rivers South-East Senatorial Ticket on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Mpigi has also accepted the party’s nomination for the senate of Federal Republic of Nigeria for the South-East Senatorial District.

ACCEPTANCE SPEECH DELIVERED BY RT HON BARINADA MPIGI AFTER HIS NOMINATION FOR THE SENATE AT THE SOUTH-EAST SENATORIAL PRIMARIES OF THE PDP ON TUESDAY OCTOBER 2, 2019.
PROTOCOL.
I have a rare privilege to stand before you today to accept our party’s nomination for the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for the South-East Senatorial District. And I accept it with the greatest gratitude, humility and Confidence. Thank you so much for entrusting me with such great responsibility to rally our people in the Senatorial district towards a greater and properous future for us and the next generation. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
In my life, no success has come without a fight, and this nomination wasn’t any different. I want to salute my friend and brother, Senator Olaka Nwogu and his gallant supporters for giving us a good fight. I believe Senator Olaka is a man of good ability and could have equally been a good Senator. I honor him and wish to partner with him and all our party leaders and supporters to build a very potent force towards achieving our desire to capture the Senatorial district for our great party, the PDP.
I thank the Almighty God who alone has given us this victory today. Let me also extend my heartfelt thanks to all of you who stood by me throughout this period and helped me win this nomination today. All I have to tell you is that I won’t let you down. I won’t. Let there be no doubt, we are going to win the forthcoming elections. We are going to put our courage and resources together and move out to get the support and votes of the people of Khana, Gokana, Andoni, Opobo Nkoro, Eleme, Oyigbo and Tai; and we shall win.
We shall win so that government can start working for you again and get our people back on the road to prosperity, security, peace and good neighbourliness and even development. We have got a record of doing just that and the strength, experience, judgement and capacity to do it again.
As I accept this duty today, I dedicate myself to working for you; for your interest and for your development. I will reach out my hands to everyone with a willing heart and resource to help me get this district towards the part of peace, even development and greatness. And I will work and fight for all and sundry in this Senatorial District not withstanding the Local Government you come from.
When I get to the Senate by the Grace of God and your support, I will consult widely and regularly with all of you and run an open door policy so that all of you will access me easily and be at liberty to offer good ideas on how to move our Senatorial district forward. We are so enormously blessed with so much human, natural and material resources that we shouldn’t have any reason to be poor and underdeveloped. I will therefore moblise our people towards reaping direct benefits from our God given resources.
I shall strive to confront head on the hydra-headed monster of insecurity plaqueing our people in almost all the towns and villages in our Senatorial district. In that vein, I will draw on my experience with all the communities and their leaders and all the parliamentary and diplomatic tools within our disposal, to work committedly toward the amicable resolution of the intra and inter-Local Government conflicts among our people. This we must do to restore enduring security, brotherliness and peaceful co-existence among our people.
My dear friends and brothers, we trusted the Buhari government to clean away our years of tears and misery occassioned by oil pollution, underdevelopment and environmental degradation. They have violated our common trust and must be held accountable. They have turned the Ogoni Clean-up into a political tool to further inflict more pains and frustration on us. And that has to stop. I have therefore volunteered to re-invent the fight for the emancipation of not only the Ogonis but the entire people of the Senatorial district and ensure that the proper Clean up is done according to the letters and spirit of the UNEP report. Afterall, some one has to take the bull by the horns to continue the fight started by Paul Birabi and Ken Saro Wiwa. I have decided to do so and with your support, we shall together change our story to glory.
Finally, I’m grateful to the Executive Governor of Rivers State, His Exellency Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for his outstanding examples in the leadership of our great party and our dear State which has brought unparalleled growth and development to both the party and the State. I therefore call on the people of Rivers State, particularly the people of South-East Senatorial District to renew his mandate by voting massively for him in the 2019 election.
Once more, I wholeheartedly accept your nomination to represent you at the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and assure you that I will not let you down.
