The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has won all the 12 gold medals in the swimming event at the ongoing West Africa Universities Games (WAUG) in Port Harcourt.
The host defeated the University of Ghana; Nile University of Nigeria (NUN) Abuja and Obafemi Awolowo University (OUA) Ile-Ife at the opening day of the swimming event.
A medal table on Wednesday showed that UNIPORT won a total of 22 medals in both men and women categories of the event.
The four universities competed in 200 metres Individual Medley; 100m Backstroke; 200m Backstroke; 50m Butterfly and 4x200m Freestyle Relay.
Team UNIPORT total medal haul was 12 gold, five silver and five bronze medals, totalling 22 medals at the opening day of the swimming event.
NUN came second with four silver and one bronze medal, while the University of Ghana got two silver and five bronze to place third.
OAU was in the fourth position with one silver medal in the swimming medal table.
Ifiezigbe Gagbe, a female swimmer from Team UNIPORT, is currently leading the individual medals’ table having won four gold medals in the swimming event.
