The Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke today, Thursday, 6th December, 2018 appeared before the Senate Committee investigating the invasion of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, to present evidence of the invasion of the premises of the state legislature by five suspended lawmakers aided by the police.
Accompanied by Rt. Hon. Ime Okon and Rt. Hon. Aniekan Uko, the speaker, Rt. Hon Onofiok Luke gave a detailed account of the desecration of the chambers of the state legislature by the suspended lawmakers who received full protection from the police.
The invitation of the Speaker by the Senate Committee was sequel to a motion sponsored by the senator representing Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District, Sen. Bassey Albert (OBA) drawing the attention of the Senate to the invasion and occupation of the state legislature by the police. The motion also drew the attention of the Senate to attempts by the five suspended members of the state assembly to impeach the speaker and the state governor under police cover.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Luke later presented documents and video evidence of the invasion to the committee to assisit it in its investigations.
The Inspector General of Police appeared yesterday before the committee.
