…Says My Mother Taught Me Simpilicity

Bayelsa State Governor, the Honourable Seriake Dickson, on Sunday, highlighted the critical role women play in nation-building as they are saddled with the responsibility of nurturing families.

Governor Dickson stated this during a special thanksgiving service to end the funeral rites of his late mother, Mama Goldcoast Dickson, at the Palace of Melchizedek, Toru Orua, Sagbama local government area of the state.

A statement by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media Relations, Mr.Fidelis Soriwei, stated that Dickson described his mother as a good and compassionate human being whose life brought about tremendous blessings to all who knew her.

According to Governor Dickson, Mama Goldcoast taught him the virtues of simplicity, hard work and contentment and thanked God for the life she lived.

His words: “My mother was a good woman. She taught me simplicity, love, kindness, hard work, contentment. And this brings us to a very critical issue I want to touch here. Women have so much role to play in the making of any society starting with our individual families.

“My mother would not allow anybody to be disrespectful, you can disagree, but do that without being rude.

“Her life was such a tremendous blessing to all who knew her. I thank God for her life and wished she had lived longer but then who are we to question God.”

Governor Dickson said the essence of the thanksgiving service was to express his appreciation to God for the successful 4-day burial activities and thanked all Nigerians, friends and well wishers for their outpouring of love and solidarity since the demise of his mother.

In his tribute, Governor of Gombe State, Dr. Ibrahim Dankwambo said judging from the tributes to Mama Goldcoast, she must have been a good mother, who left a positive mark in Governor Dickson.

“I have seen a photocopy of Mama Goldcoast because good begets good and evil begets evil. You are a good man because I know mama must have been a good woman,” Governor Dankwambo said.

In an exhortation titled, “A Great Glory”, Pastor Valentine Isaac Ilori of the Greater Evangelism World Crusade, stressed the need for people to make peace with God and prepare themselves for eternal life.

Describing Mama Goldcoast as a humble and virtuous woman, Pastor Ilori said she lived a fullfilled life serving God faithfully and did not allow her son’s position as governor to affect her disposition in life.

He stressed that she remained herself and was not an executed mother because of the virtue of simplicity and humility.

He, therefore, urged the congregation to use the period of Mama Goldcoast’s passing to reflect on their lives and strive to live for God.
