Our attention has been drawn to several reports that have ended up twisting the truth about our principal, Senator Dr Mao Ohuabunwa, the senator representing Abia North and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the national assembly election which was conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The reports which are jaundiced and aimed at maligning the integrity and image of Senator Ohuabunwa, a reputable man and model of impeccable civility, have it that he was involved in several electoral malpractices perpetrated on election day. These offenses they allege range from gun running to importation of thugs, snatching of ballot boxes and intimidation of voters, hence the invitation by the police for questioning after the elections.
While we would have completely pretended to be ignorant of the machinations of morally bankrupt persons whose stock appreciate from perpetrating works of darkness, we would not fail to offer the sacrifice of truth to our people by categorically denouncing these reports as not only false but the creative outputs of people whose defined daily job is to be negatively imaginative; churning out slanderous stories meant to smear virtues exhibited through a life well built on the principles of morality and forthrightness.
We want to say for the umpteenth time that beyond their wildest thought, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa is a man whose background of moral rectitude is traceable through a name and heritage that can never be bought by money. Having excelled in the private sector, his venture into partisan politics has not only blessed his name, his primary constituent has been at the fore of examples of societal development. His stay at the lower house of the National assembly saw several milestones recorded in his constituency, with his eventual emergence by fate as a senator of the federal republic, he didn’t fail to distinguish himself as a public servant called and separated for that sole purpose.
It is imperative that we reiterate that our petition is still on the inconclusive election which INEC has already announced a winner. In an election where the margin of lead by the winner is 10,400 as against 38,526 votes canceled by the electoral body, there ought to have been an order for a rerun. On this basis and many more we have stated our prayer to the courts pending their judgement.
We understand and therefore we are not new to the hastings of those who are in possession of stolen water: those who have taken the mandate of the people of Abia North by their scheming and devices. It is unfortunate that their puerile attempt at bullying Senator Ohuabunwa into not pursuing his mandate through the courts has led them to mudslinging and character assassination. We are never taken aback as it is the only identity posterity has apportioned to them. We only call for calm and courage on the part of the good people of Abia North.
We restate that this anomaly by INEC in Abia North does not in any way call for any form of panic, as we believe that the will of God will prevail over the thunderous voice of man.
Abians and indeed Nigerians know who their leaders are and those who have plundered our commonwealth.
