One of the robbery suspects paraded by the Enugu state police command, Friday, said he was not an armed robber but a renounced cultist.

The suspect, Brendan Ezeugwu, who claimed to be a native of Diogbe in Igbo Etiti local government area of Enugu state, told newsmen that he only bought a pistol  to protect himsef from his former Vikings cult members should they come to attack him.

“I am not an armed robber. I am a former member of a cult group known as Vikings. I have renounced membership, but I bought a gun to protect myself,” the about 23-year-old confessed.

Asked who he bought the gun from, Brendan merely said “I bought the gun from one guy from my village.”

Addressing newsmen, the commissioner of police, Suleiman Balarabe, said they would make sure that Enugu “is rid of crime and criminals.”

“There is no room for criminals in Enugu state. I advise that criminals should leave the state,” he said.

Balarabe said his men would deal with drug dealers, “especially those who sell hemps or marijuana to bad boys.”

He said though drugs are not police duty but that of the NDLEA, but said they would liaise with their sister organisation to fish out drug dealers.

The police boss said since they launched Operation Puff Adder meant to rid the state of criminal elements, his men had been working round the clock to secure the state from criminals.
