The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the arrest of the Osun State Governor-Elect, Senator Ademola Adeleke on Monday 6th of May, 2019 at about 6p.m. by the Nigerian Police Force. It described the basis of his arrest as unjustified, unsubstantiated and politically motivated.

In its reaction to the arrest through a Press Statement signed by Ayo Fadaka, the South west Zonal Publicity Secretary, the PDP said it was unacceptable the latest Police action calculated to harass and intimidate Senator Adeleke out of his commitment to pursue actions to retrieve his stolen mandate from the current usurper in Osun State Government House.

“it is important to assure the Police and the sponsors of this action that irrespective of their arm twisting and undemocratic actions, the PDP and Adeleke will pursue the legal actions to retrieve that mandate to a conclusion”.

“In view of the foregoing, we want to warn that no harm must befall Adeleke, now and in the days ahead as such development will certainly portend dire consequences”, Fadaka said.

“We condemn all desperate actions currently being sponsored by the APC and declare that they are ungentlemanly and a clear abuse of privileges. We also remind the APC and even the IG that the Police Force is a constitutionally recognized institution of State and not an extension of a political party, therefore must not be employed to harass, intimidate and coerce citizens at the behest of APC”.

“We sincerely hope that the case will go to Court today and do expect that due process will be observed thereafter”.

According to the Police, Senator Ademola Adeleke was arrested in connection with ongoing criminal investigations touching on his person. He was detained and remained in Police custody till Tuesday (today) 7th May, 2019 when he would be arraigned in a court in Abuja(today).

A statement by the Force Spokesman, DCP Frank Mba reads: “Senator Adeleke is currently in police custody. He was taken into custody in the evening of today 6th May, 2019 in connection with ongoing criminal investigations touching on his person.”

“Meanwhile, in the best tradition of natural justice and fair hearing, he has already been served with the relevant charge sheet containing his alleged offences in the presence of his Attorneys.”

“He will be arraigned in a competent court of law tomorrow, 7th May, 2019,” DCP Frank Mba concluded.
