History was made yesterday, Wednesday, May 29th 2019 as twelve first time members-elect of the about to be inaugurated 7th House of Assembly of Abia State uninamously endorsed the Majority Leader of the House and Honourable member representing Umuahia Central State Constituency, Chief (Engr.) Chinedum Orji, popularly known as IKUKU for the Speakership position.
The twelve first time members-elect under the aiges of NN12 said the Abia State House of Assembly needed a fresh air in the person of Honourable (Engr.) Chinedum Orji, hence the endorsement.
The lawmakers made up members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) All Progressive Congress (APC) and All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) include; Hon Ginger Onwusibe Member-elect for Isialangwa North(PDP) Hon CHIJIOKE Chukwu(APC) Member-elect for Bende North, Hon Emmanuel Ndubuisi(PDP) Member – elect for Bende South, Hon Uzodike Aaron (PDP) Aba North, Hon. Nchita Martins (APGA) Members-elect for ABA South, Hon Nnamdi Allen Nwachukwu (PDP) members-elect for Osisioma Ngwa South, Hon. Jerry Uzosike (PDP) members-elect for Umuahia South and Hon Emeka Okoroafor (APC) Isiukwuato State Constituency.
This action by the newly elected members of the House is of great significance and a pointer to the fact that Hon. Chinedum Orji has emerged as Speaker in advance. This is because a Speaker of legislative house emerges by a simple majority vote. So, out of 24 members-elect of the House, twelve new comers have already voted Hon. Orji in advance. Also, six retuning members have endorsed him too. The remaining six which himself is part of would bring him in as the Speaker too. This confidence is hinged on the fact that Engr. Orji enjoys the amiable support of his colleagues who are returning to the State House of Assembly.
These members-elect believe in the capacity and leadership acumen of the incoming Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Chinedum Orji (Ikuku). It is on the bases of their belief in him that they vowed to give him the needed support. These overwhelming support equally speaks volume of how the incoming House would look like; for it would be a peaceful and united House with one motive and agendium of taking Abia to its dreamed destination.
Incontrovertibly, the incoming Speaker, Hon. Chinedum Orji is gentleman to work with. In the last four years, he has demonstrated capacity to lead and to represent his good people and constitutuents. Hon. Orji has brought his experience and Intelligence to bear in handling the office of the Majority Leader and would do better as the Speaker.
This endorsement has finally brought to an end the issue of who becomes the Speaker of the 7th House of Assembly in Abia State. As Abia people await 6th June, 2019, the inauguration of the 7th Abia State House of Assembly, it is the hope of the people that the members-elect of the House would do the needful and elect their noble colleague, Engr. Chinedum Orji as their Speaker as well as give him the necessary support to take the legislative house to enviable height! Ikuku Oma Abia all the way!
