Environmental Court Commits Man to Two Months Imprisonment in Aba

Mr. Ndubueze Uzoma has been sentenced to prison custody for indiscriminate dumping of refuse along Azikiwe Road, Aba.

The Presiding Officer, Environmental Sanitation Court Aba Zone, Barr. U.C. Okata has sentenced Mr. Ndubueze Uzoma who was arrested by the ASEPA Taskforce to two months imprisonment.

In his judgement, Barr. U.C. Okatar said the defendant was arrested by The ASEPA Taskforce Team on duty for indiscriminate dumping of refuse at unauthorized place along Azikiwe road Aba.

The Presiding Officer further said that although the defaulter pleaded guilty to the Charge, he maintained that it was the opinion of the court that sanity must be maintained at all level of our environment.

Barr. Okatar also made it clear that the two Months imprisonment given to the culprit shall serve as deterrent to others who may wish to disobey the environmental sanitation laws of the state.

Reacting to the judgement, The Deputy General Manager, ASEPA Aba Zone, Chief Rowland Nwakanma expressed satisfaction with the ruling and cautioned the residents of the city to shun indiscriminate dumping of refuse into the drainages/gutters and along the road/streets of Aba. He further posited that his agency will continue to arrest and prosecute all sanitation offenders until sanity is restored in Aba.
