A Chieftain of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Oyo State, Alhaji Mukaila Lamidi, popularly known as Auxiliary has attributed the attack by the robbers who invaded the students hostel of the university of Ibadan on Sunday to insensitivity of the federal government to horrible state of insecurity in the country.

Auxiliary who stated this in his Sallah message to both Muslims and Christians however sympathized with the affected students and pray Almighty Allah to return their captivities in multiple folds and heal their wounds.

“Alhamdulilahi to Allah for live spared in good health to witness another Eid-il-kabir. As we join our Muslim brothers and sisters in celebrating Eid-EL-Kabir, may God grant us success, good health, promotions, long life and prosperity in return. It’s celebration of God’s mercy that Allah demonstrated when HE replaced a son with a ram. This year may we comprehend that all of us have our source in God and value each other whatever we be Christians or Muslims. I also give thanks to Allah that no live loss in the attack on the UI community by armed robbers early hours of today, I pray God to return to them in millions whatever the robbers might have taken away and heal their wounds” Auxiliary stated.

Reacting to the attack on UI students hostel few hours to the celebration of Eid-el Kabir on Sunday, Auxiliary described the attack as an embarrassment to the nation and a reflexion of how insensitive the federal government is to lives and properties of even our children. “I am disturbed and badly embarrassed hearing the news of another attack within the spate of two months on UI students’ hostel by some gunmen suspected to be armed robbers. So, even schools are no longer safe for our children again in Nigeria. Where do the government expect us to move our children to or how do they expect good learning under such volatile environment?

“Since the first attack on these innocent students (Awolowo Hall) of these great institution in July this year, in a sane environment, one would have expected the federal government to beef up security around the institution and carry out a serious and meaningful investigation to fish out the criminals among the residents of the institution. We should not forget that UI is a town on its own, and that compounded the work of the institution’s security department, hence the urgent needs to engage the services of competent security agencies like SSS, Military Intelligence Unit.”
Auxiliary, who described Engineer Seyi Makinde as “people’s governor and a caring father” called on the state governor to assist the institution to tackle its deteriorating state of insecurity by granting all needed support to the authority of the institution. “Let me use this great Sallah period to appeal to our indefatigable governor to come to the rescue of the first University and number one university in Nigeria by providing adequate support for the university to fight the ongoing insecurity challenges and safe the lives of our tomorrow’s leaders,” Auxiliary pleaded.
He however, advised Nigerians to engage themselves in dialogue over issues that they dislike instead of allowing hate and speeches that cause disaffection to thrive. “those fanning the embers of disunity and agitating for war were ignorant of its adverse effect, I am appealing to us all to allow dialogue to thrive, I believe we are still standing strong even in this Storm. Everyman asked for wisdom, Allah added riches, Ibrahim asked for a son, Allah gave him generations; may Almighty Allah give us all more great things than we asked for Insha-Allahu,” he added.

He also advised NURTW members in Oyo State and all over Nigeria to allow peace to thrive and offer their best to transform the Union into enviable one to rival their counterparts in developed country. He also called on religious leaders, politicians and the traditional institutions to allow issues that bind us as a nation to thrive.

“We must preach unity and love to our members, to enable us to maintain the peace we enjoy as a country. I am also appealing to NURTW executives in all the 36 states and FCT to over their best to reposition our Union and make it enviable Union to rival those in overseas. Let me also advise all drivers to drive with much caution during Sallah period as people prepare to return to their places of work after Sallah. For those traveling during this festive period I ask Almighty Allah to protect and guide you safely through every mile. May the spiritual goodness of this day enrich your soul with strong resistance to any kind of evil and keep your family on the path of righteousness. Insha Allah (Amin). I wish everyone happy eil-el Adha/Kabir,” Auxiliary concluded.
