Rotary Club Installs New President For Umuahia Central

It was a celebration of who is who in the Rotary family as a Commissioner designate in Abia state, Hon. Prince Dan Iheanacho Okoli, was installed as the 35th President of Rotary Club of Umuahia Central District 9142 for 2019/2020 service year.

Speaking during the installation ceremony held at Hotel Villa Roy, Mission Hill, Umuahia, the newly installed President, Rotary Club of Umuahia Central, Hon. Prince Okoli said that it remains a collective responsibility of all to make life better for the needy in the society.

Prince Okoli said he has mapped out projects which would connect the Rotary to the immediate communities to ameliorate their challenges.

He listed the community projects expected to be embarked upon to include the payment of tuition fee for twenty indigent pupils in addition to providing 1,000 branded Rotary Club- 4 Way Test quality exercise books.

According to him, the empowerment of 10 indigent men and women with non refundable grants to enable them eke out a living in various trades of their choice will also be done.

On maternal and child health, Hon Okoli said that the Club will continue the “End Polio” campaign and in partnership with the Office of the Wife of the Abia State Governor, will conduct free blood group and genotype tests to reduce the incidents of sickle cell and other related disease, among other free medical services.

He further stated that they would partner with the executive and traders at Ohiya mechanic cluster and spare parts market to construct a modern public convenience to curb acts of open defecation and reduce the spread of diseases under the water and environmental sanitation scheme.

“We shall erect bill boards with the Rotary 4 Way Test and other correctional messages aimed at the reorientation of members of the community on good ethical standard of living”, he stated.

The Rotary Club President further solicited for support to enable them achieve their goals and projects during the Rotary year and thanked the guests for identifying with them.

In his address, the immediate past President of the Club, Rtn Martin Uchenna Kalu, thanked members of the Club for the support they gave him during his service year as their President and urged them to extend the same to his successor.

Rtn Uche Kalu listed some of his achievements to include strengthening of their various clubs, construction of various projects including building a public convenience with potable water at Ohiya mechanic to stop open defecation.

The Speaker, Rt Hon Cjinedum Enyinnaya Orji MNSE, who was represented at the occasion by Hon Jerry Uzosike, congratulated the newly installed President of Rotary Club Umuahia Central District 9142, saying, “With your pedigree and God’s grace, I know you will succeed”.
