The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Bayelsa State says, it has uncovered plans by the leadership of APC to use the Nigerian Army to undermine the November 16 Gubernatorial election in the State.

A statement by the State Chairman of the PDP, Hon. Moses Cleopas alleged that, the plan has been perfected and confirmed in secret meetings between the APC leader in the State and Minister of State for Petroleum, Chief Timipre Sylva and the outgoing GOC, 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, Major General Jamil Sarham.

The statement explains that, Major General Jamil Sarharm, who was due to have handed over to his successor Major General Felix Agugo last Wednesday, 5th of November, 2019, aborted the process which he had started earlier, just to hang on till after the Governorship election in Bayelsa State.

According to the statement, the outgoing GOC has already directed his officers and men to look the other way, when armed thugs of the APC attack PDP members in Nembe, Brass and Sagbama Local Government Areas on election day.

It has also been revealed that, Major General Sarham has also directed soldiers to ensure that they give cover to APC thugs that have been contracted to cause violence in PDP strongholds in the state for the results from those areas to be cancelled.

The PDP statement further disclosed that, the outgoing GOC of the 6 Division has also perfected plans to discipline or post out all the formation heads not aligned to this mission before the election on the 16th of November, 2019. Warning them that he will still be in charge and will only handover on the 18th of November after the election.

The PDP is therefore, calling on the Chief of Army Staff, General Tukur Buratai to prevail on the outgoing GOC of the 6 Division to proceed to his new assignment or completely hands off the Governorship election in Bayelsa state.
